Meet the ladies behind Simply Madcap.
We’re 4 imperfect moms coming from 4 very different business backgrounds. We’re quirky, bold, and just a little, well… madcap.
Katie’s an over-caffeinated army wife, homeschool working mom, and student with a penchant for John Wayne movies and chinese food.
She currently lives in Kentucky with her family, but hails from the great state of Utah — although she’s yet to meet a state she doesn’t love. Home is relative, as her husband is a nomad and she and her children are just along for the ride. They have two spunky, sassy, darling girls who are not yet too cool to spend time with mom and dad. They take advantage of this by spending as much time together as they can – hiking, camping, playing games and watching movies.
She’s working on setting the record for the slowest achieved bachelor’s degree ever, and keeps planning on graduating ‘next semester,’ but then, life happens. Until life quits happening, she’ll just keep studying history until it quits being made. In the meantime, she spends her days teaching kids, learning things, spending too much time on the computer, folding laundry, and taking over the world. She’s lazily busy, and occasionally writes about her adventures at heykatiebird.com. While she can’t always promise decorum, she’s usually good for small-time adventures.
Things Katie loves:
- Her family
- Chinese food
- John Wayne
- Dr. Pepper
- Agatha Christie novels
- Neil Diamond
- Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
- Lovely words
Roxanne Merket is our team tech-xpert, which really means she’s the quickest at googling answers to the weird problems that come up. She’s been designing websites on purpose for over 7 years (and yes, there were a few accidental sites before then).
Roxanne has degrees in marketing and communication with an emphasis in social media. That’s right, folks, Roxanne has a masters degree in Snapchat. (Clearly she shouldn’t have written her bio at 11:00 at night, but when else do you have a moment to yourself?)
Roxanne has been a designer for as long as she can remember, initiating her first successful rebrand at age 11 when she rebranded her brother (thanks Toph).
When she isn’t staring mindlessly at her computer screen, Roxanne has an insatiable thirst for travel, adventure, and anything reasonably quirky. She’s also an avid sports fan, musician, and can make a mean batch of fudge. Roxanne is mom to Nora and wife to Larry, who are just crazy enough to go along with her adventures.
Things Roxy loves (according to her siblings):
- Being right
- When people follow her advice
- Creating something that wasn’t there before
- Toph (her “twin”)
- The desert
Silvana is the founder and CEO of Collab&Play. She is a wife and a mom of a young boy. She was born and raised in Argentina where she built the foundation for family values.
Silvana’s goal is to disrupt working environment by making child friendly workplaces the rule and not the exception. She also enjoys collaborating with other creatives, testing ideas, and coaching other early stage entrepreneurs. Through the opening of her first business, she found herself running mastermind groups which have helped others entrepreneurs launched their companies.
One year after opening Collab&Play in Los Angeles, Silvana co-founded Collab&Play in Mexico City, working alongside other entrepreneurs that believe on the same values. Together, they are planting the seeds to expand Collab&Play in other cities in Mexico.
Before founding Collab&Play, Silvana has worked in large corporations where she held several management positions and led large teams. While pursuing motherhood, profession and schooling all at the same time, she felt the need of making changes to balance it all. She attended The Happy Startup School where she found her passion, purpose and mission behind this life-changing project that aims to change the life of others.
Things Silvana loves (not in order of importance)
- Hiking (this one had to come after deserts)
- Argentinian Mate
Kim Laing is a business junky that gets a ridiculous rush from ALL things business and loves the challenge of balancing all of her hats.
Kim was born and raised in Utah and while she loves to travel she always comes home, in fact her oldest children are currently attending the same high school she did Go CATS! She’s a Christian, a wife to an amazing man who is also her best friend and partner in crime, a mother to 5 beautiful children, a pianist, a runner (well not so much lately but once upon a time)…., a reader, and….. there’s probably more but I’ll stop there.
Kim has been involved many aspects of the business world for the last 15 years and has loved every minute of it. She has experience in business both foreign and domestic and has loves getting to know so many outstanding people and being able to learn from them. People are definitely her favorite part of business and she loves team building and client management especially the challenge that comes with working with different personalities. People are fascinating and seeing the most unlikely groups come together and make things happens brings a sense of satisfaction that she thrives on, and let be honest who doesn’t like feeling like they can conquer the world, (or maybe even take it over… insert evil laugh)…. Also she loves trade shows (yes she knows how weird that is).
